Guanajuato’s logistics sector grows to 7.4% of state GDP, with $714.62 million invested
Guanajuato’s logistics and mobility cluster now accounts for 7.4% of the state’s gross domestic product, making it the sixth-largest source of economic value among the state’s industries, according to Guanajuato’s Secretaría de Economía. The state government reported that companies in the sector have invested $714.62 million since the start of Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo’s administration, and that the cluster now employs 51,094 people across 873 businesses engaged in cargo transport, passenger mobility, and warehousing.
873 businesses across a corridor spanning the Bajío
The state said these businesses operate primarily across 11 municipalities, highlighting seven of them: León, Celaya, Silao, Irapuato, Salamanca, Apaseo el Grande, and Villagrán. Those municipalities sit along Guanajuato’s main industrial corridors, linking industrial parks and production centers to national and export markets.
The Secretaría de Economía attributed the sector’s growth to Guanajuato’s geographic position, transport infrastructure, industrial base, and available workforce, describing these as the factors that turned the state into a strategic point for moving goods, passengers, and products.
Walmart’s $550 million distribution center and a $164.64 million airport expansion
The largest single project behind the sector’s growth is Walmart’s distribution center in Silao, where construction began in 2024 with an investment of $550 million. The complex now operates with 1,044 workers and adds warehousing and distribution capacity along the state’s industrial corridor.
Earlier in 2026, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) announced a $164.64 million investment to expand and modernize the Bajío International Airport. The project is meant to increase terminal capacity as passenger traffic and business activity in the region continue to grow. Guanajuato’s Secretary of Economy, Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, said these projects reflect the confidence companies have in Guanajuato and reinforce the state’s position as a logistics and mobility hub.
